According to the Design Notes posted on January 6th, 2017, EpicDuel will continue to function normally in 2017 with the continued return of seasonal rares and the reactivated war cycle. The developers of EpicDuel have been assigned to work on AdventureQuest 3D, which means that EpicDuel will receive minimal updates (crucial bug fixes, addition of new war prizes) or no updates at all.

Bug Fixes

  • Void Essence and Recruitment Letter images now show up in the inventory.
  • Missing prize code items have been added to the item finder.
  • A typo on the Daily Code Redeems leaderboard has been fixed.

  • Players will now receive a Credit bonus when they level up, roughly equal to the amount of Credits they would have earned before the experience curve changes, made in December.
  • 15000 Varium package promotion has ended.
  • BioBeasts promotional packages have been removed from the varium store.
  • Level of dual NPC opponents in juggernaut has been increased in order to curb botting attempts.
  • Seasonal Rare BioBeasts items have been removed from shops and will return around September 18, 2017. Weapons and armor will be available for credits once they return, while cores will remain varium-only.

Balance Changes

  • Lower level players now have an increased chance of First Strike.
  • Effective level system for Legendary Ranks has been changed. This affects First Strike and Underdog calculations.
    • Dev Note: This change should better reflect the fact that the higher Legendary Ranks are not as powerful as early Ranks, stopping the Underdog buff from penalizing higher leveled Legendary players.

  • 12000 Varium package has been replaced with a 15000 varium package.
  • NPC Fill System
    • In order to ensure that players can always find matches, especially while leveling to 40, NPCs will now be automatically added to battles at intervals if a player cannot be found.
    • The system will pick a level-appropriate NPC to add to the match if a player was not found in a certain amount of time. In the case of 2v2 and Juggernaut, 1 NPC will be added at a time until the match is full.
    • NPCs level 37+ will not be added to battles, so players near/at max level should see less NPCs than lower level players
    • NPC AI has been improved to make better strategic decisions than before. Notably they can now heal allies and will generally try to attack the more appropriate target in 2v2s.
    • A number of NPCs had their level updated to make sure enough NPCs exist at every level.
  • Non-Seasonal Limited Rares will now automatically be restocked every few weeks if depleted. NPCs with limited quantity items such as Charfade or Dage can tell you how long it is until next restock.
  • Cryo Crafts renamed to Blue and Red Cryocrafts for clarity in the item finder.
  • Dragon Buster Armor now defined as “Rare Promo” in the item finder.
  • Staff/unavailable items were hidden from view in the item finder.
  • Items only attainable from mission were hidden from view in the item finder.
  • Items obtained through NPC drops were categorized as Battle Drops in the item finder.

Balance Changes

  • Juggernaut
    • Dev Note: We undershot Juggernaut matching, especially since Underdog is now a thing. We want to keep Underdog to balance out getting, say, two level 32s in one match and two level 27s in the next. This way we can keep the difficulty of each match relatively equal while keeping the level ranges large enough to try and get matches in a reasonable time. This gives us a lot more balancing levers to get Juggernaut battles in a good spot.
    • Level range lowered from 5-10 lower than Juggernaut to 7-13 levels lower (A level 40 Juggernaut will now match with level 27-32 opponents)
    • Underdog now starts 10 effective levels lower than the Juggernaut, previously 5
  • Legendary Ranks
    • Dev Note: We were hearing a lot of feedback on the Legendary Rank system, namely that it provides too much power, and that 10 Ranks were generally worth more than 1 regular level. With these changes we intend to bring down the overall power given by Ranks, which should also even out the 10 ranks to 1 level ratio.
    • Primary Damage: 3 → 1 per point
    • Sidearm Damage: 4 → 2 per point
    • Auxiliary Damage: 4 → 2 per point
    • Defense: 3 → 1 per point
    • Resistance: 3 → 1 per point
    • Robot Damage: 4 → 2 per point

    • Energy Efficiency: 1 per point (unchanged)

  • First Strike
    • Lower level players are now more likely than before to go first, compensating for Underdog Support buffs.
  • Smoke Screen
    • Dexterity debuff: -2 at all levels
  • Static Grenade
    • Energy drain increased by 1 every 1.5 Support, previously 0.5.
  • Fireball
    • Debuff duration: 1 → 2 turns

  • Massive Strike core could not be equipped to primary weapons.

Balance

  • Juggernauts now receive a passive buff granting them a 20% buff to their base Strength, Dexterity, Technology, and Support.
  • Underdog
    • Now applies to 2v2 matches. Underdogs receive a buff that increases in power for each level they are below the average of the other team. Note that each 10 Legendary levels count as a normal level for Underdog calculations, just as they do in 1v1 matches. Players on both teams may receive an Underdog buff depending on matchups.
    • Also used in Juggernaut matches. Underdogs receive a buff that tries to get them to 5 levels under the Juggernaut’s level. We’ll keep an eye on this and do adjustments in December if necessary.
  • Energy
    • All classes now gain 1.5 Energy per level, down from 2.
  • Static Smash
    • Energy gain increased from 75% to 100% of energy drained.
  • Blood Commander
    • Lifesteal increased from 60% to 75% of Strength gained.
  • Bunker Buster
    • Damage increased by 10.
  • Mark of Blood
    • Lifesteal lowered by 3%.
  • Static Grenade
    • Energy gain lowered from 65% to 60%.
  • Massacre
    • Energy required lowered by 20.
  • Shadow Arts
    • Energy required lowered by 10.
  • Energy Parasite
    • Support requirement lowered by 1 per level.
    • Energy gain lowered from 150% to 140% of energy drained.
  • Plasma Cannon
    • Resistance ignore increased from 10% to 15%.
  • Fireball
    • Defense/Resist debuff increased from 5% to 10%.
  • Plasma Bolt
    • Scaling increased from +1 damage per 0.4 Tech to 0.35 (More damage per Technology).
  • Battery Backup
    • Energy gain lowered by 10.
  • Multishot, Plasma Rain, Artillery Strike
    • Cooldown increased from 2 to 3 turns.

Bug Fixes

  • A problem where switching faction alignment could charge incorrect Varium amount has been fixed.

  • Effective Level
  • A lot of changes involve an idea we call your “effective level” or “eLvl” and mainly applies to Legendary players. Basically, we consider each 10 Legendary Ranks you gain to be about equal to 1 level. So if you are Rank 10, your “eLvl” is 41. If you are Rank 78, your eLvl is 47. Since you can spend a maximum of 100 legendary points right now, we cap your eLvl to 50. If you are lower than level 40, your eLvl is the same as your actual level.
  • Underdog Buff
  • This is a new buff that will be applied automatically to 1v1 PvP players when they are lower level than their opponent. For every 2 levels (including eLvls), the lower level player will receive +1 to Strength, Dexterity, Technology, and Support. This is not designed to completely even the playing field, just to give lower level players a fighting chance. While this will initially only apply to 1v1 matches, we’re considering ways to expand this into 2v2 and Juggernaut.
  • Matching
  • eLvl is now considered by matchmaking. It will attempt to match players with similar eLvls before allowing higher level differences. Legendary players can match with non-Legendary players just like before, but the Underdog buff may be applied in this case to compensate.
  • eLvl is now considered for First Strike chance and experience / Credit bonuses for winning against higher level players. This means that an eLvl 41 player will have a greater chance to go first and will get bonus experience and Credits for a win against an eLvl 45 player.
  • Maximum level range for non-Legendary 2v2 matches is now 5, down from 6.
  • Gun Damage
  • Gun damage now scales with Dexterity instead of Strength.
  • Because Dexterity provides a number of defensive bonuses, it will scale slower than Primary damage. We’ll be watching to see if adjustments are needed after the patch.
  • Primary Damage
  • The amount of Primary Damage per point of Strength has been lowered.
  • For comparison, a player with 100 Strength will do roughly 17 less damage with a normal Strike than before.
  • Critical, Block, Deflect chance
  • The minimum chance for these effects is now 0%.
  • This means a high enough stat advantage will reduce your opponent’s chance to crit, block, or deflect to 0. The number of stats required to accomplish this has been increased, however. See below for details.
  • Cores affecting these chances have been buffed to compensate for this change, making them more effective at balancing weaknesses in your build. These cores are still not affected by stats.
  • These Cores can also no longer exceed the maximum chance for these effects to prevent abuse cases.
  • Critical chance
  • Minimum chance: 1% ⇒ 0%
  • +1% per 7 Support over opponent ⇒ 7.5 Support
  • Block chance
  • Minimum chance: 2% ⇒ 0%
  • 1% per 2.5 Dexterity over opponent ⇒ 5 Dexterity

Bugs Fixed

  • Fixed an issue with Rage where the Rage defense ignore portion of the calculation that improves with Support was not factoring in Gear or Buffs. This error resulted in players inflicting less damage than expected with high Support builds. Details provided by ‘nowras’ in the forums resulted in this fix.
  • Fixed an issue with Shadow Arts and block chance.
  • Fixed an issue where the Daily Mission button would display the wrong amount of time remaining in the day depending on your time zone.
  • Fixed Code Crafter achievement was not actually counting towards the total amount of achievements available under general achievements tab.
  • Fixed an issue where Faction flags would not appear on War Leaderboards in Fortune City, Frysteland and Infernal Mines.
  • Fixed an issue where the wrong message would appear during retrain. It would say “Every starting skill must be at least level 1” when actually stat requirements aren’t met.
  • Fixed Egg-citing Adventure Mission dialogue: “5 Nightmare Eggs Caden, Slayer and RabbleFroth.” > “5 Nightmare Eggs from Caden, Slayer and RabbleFroth.”
  • Fixed Thorns and Spirit Thorns core descriptions. They now clarify that only Player Melee attacks are affected.

Omega 1.6.33a (Hotfix) - December 9, 2014


NEW CHANGES/FEATURES:

  • New performance option is now available in the settings panel: Hide other characters. This will disable visibility on all other characters in a room, vastly improving performance in crowded rooms. This option will never turn on automatically, unlike a few other changes we’ve implemented.
  • Automated performance settings: Entering rooms with 20+ players will automatically set Flash quality to Low, stop NPC animations, and prevent “warp in/out” animations from playing. When a room has 30+ players, the game will stop showing the walk animation when a player moves, simply “snapping” them to their final location. It will also prevent you from doing slash emotes (such as /dance).


BUGS FIXED:

  • Error when healing with Hatchling Rush active.
  • Removed Hank’s Harvest and Frozen Harvest from mission list (They were meant to be removed December 1st).
